Honey balls- this recipe does not have grandma's cat hair- but feel free to add after you have poured the honey.

Ingredients

  • 3 c. all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp. sugar
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 c. vegetable oil
  • 5 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 cup candied cherries, chopped (optional)
  • oil for deep frying
  • 1 c. honey
  • 1/3 c. nonpareil colored sprinkles

Preparation

Step 1

1. In large electric mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar and baking powder until combined. Add oil, eggs, and vanilla to dry ingredients and mix thoroughly.

2. Heat frying oil in deep fryer or deep saucepan.

3. With floured hands, spoon out dough and on floured surface roll into ropes about 1/2 thick. Cut rope into 1/4 inch pieces- place into oil. Watch closely and turn over with a pasta strainer or slatted spoon as they cook quickly. Cook both sides until lightly golden brown, remove and place on paper towels or brown paper bags to drain oil. Place into large bowl.

4. Pour honey over balls and mix so all are coated with honey. Place on serving dish and mold into mound, our sprinkles over and decorate with cherries.
