Ingredients
- 3-1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 3 tablespoons baking powder
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Preparation
Step 1
1. Heat oil to 375 degrees F in deep fryer or heavy kettle.
2. Beat 1-1/2 cups of the flour and the remaining ingredients in a large mixer bowl on low speed, scraping bowl constantly; about 30 seconds.
3. Beat on medium speed, scraping occasionally; 2 minutes.
4. Stir in remaining flour.
5. Turn dough onto well-floured cloth-covered board; roll around lightly to coat with flour.
6. Roll gently 3/8" thick.
7. Cut with floured cookie cutter.
8. Slide donuts into hot oil with wide spatula.
9. Turn donuts as they rise to the surface.
10. Fry until golden brown, 1 to 1-1/2 minutes on each side.
11. Remove from oil, do not prick donuts.
12. Drain on paper towels
