Ingredients

  • 1 1/2

    cups seedless raisins

  • 1 1/2

    cups dates, cut up

  • 2

    cups sugar

  • 2

    cups boiling water

  • 5

    Tbsp shortening

  • 3

    cups flour, sifted

  • 1

    tsp baking soda

  • 2

    tsp cinnamon

  • 1

    tsp cloves

  • 1

    tsp salt

  • 1

    cup nuts, chopped

  • 1

    cup mixed candied fruit

Directions

1. In a saucepan, gently simmer raisins, dates, sugar, boiling water and shortening for 20 minutes. Cool. 2. Preheat oven to 325 degrees 3. Sift together flour, baking soda, and spices. Add to the cooled mixture. Mix in nuts and candied fruit. 4. Pour into two loaf pans or 1 angel food cake pan and bake for 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 hours **Store for several days, freezes very well
