Whole Grain Raisin Bread

A whole grain and raisin yeast bread recipe for bread machines.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup quick or old fashioned oats
  • 2 tablespoons firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/3 cup sunflower seeds
  • 2 tablespoons wheat germ
  • 3 teaspoons or 2 (1/4-ounce) packets quick-rising active yeast

Preparation

Step 1

Place ingredients in bread machine pan according to manufacturer's directions or as listed above.
Select white bread and light crust settings.
Remove bread from pan to wire rack. Cool completely before slicing.
Makes 1 1/2 pound loaf.

Cook’s Tip: No buttermilk on hand? Substitute it by placing 1 tablespoon plus 1 1/2 teaspoons white vinegar in a measuring cup and adding milk to measure 1 1/2 cups. Let set for a minute and proceed with recipe.
