Unstuffed Cabbage

All the ingredients in my mother's stuffed cabbage (or Halupki, as we called it in our town)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1.5 cups rice
  • 1 can tomato soup
  • 1.5 soup cans of water
  • 1/2 head medium cabbage, chopped

Preparation

Step 1

Cut up cabbage (whatever size pieces you prefer)and spread in the bottom of a 9x13 pan or another casserole dish.
In a fry pan brown the ground beef. Add the onion and cook until soft. Drain the fat. Add the rice, soup and water. Stir. Pour over cabbage and mix slightly. Put foil over pan (or lid) and bake 45 minutes at 350F degrees (180C) Stir once or twice so rice cooks evenly. Add more water if it dries out.

This is good heated up the next day for lunch!
