  • c. mashed bananas

  • c. buttermilk

    tsp. vanilla extract

    c. all-purpose flour

  • tsp. baking powder

  • tsp. baking soda

  • ½

    c. chopped walnuts


1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease two 9 x 5 inch loaf pans. 2. Cream together the shortening and sugar. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the bananas, buttermilk, and vanilla. Mix in the flour, baking powder, and baking soda. Stir in the nuts, if desired . Pour the batter into the prepared pans. 3. Bake for 50 - 60 min, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean. Let cool in pans for a few minutes before turning out onto a rack to cool completely.
