Ingredients

  • 1 lb sweet italian sausage
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1 C minced onion
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 (28oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cans tomato paste
  • 1 (13oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 C water
  • 2 T sugar
  • 1 1/2 t dried basil
  • 1/2 t fennel seeds
  • 1 t Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 t pepper
  • 4 T chopped fresh parsley
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 16 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 12 oz mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 3/4 C grated parmesean

Step 1

1. Cook sausage, ground beef, onion, garlic, over medium heat until well browned. Stir in crushed tomatoes, paste, sauce and water. Add sugar, basil, fennel. italian seasoning. pepper and 1/2 parsley. Simmer 90 minutes stirring occasionally.

2. cook lasagna noodles for 8-10 minutes in boiling water then rinse w/ cold.

3. Combine ricotta, egg, remaining parsley.

Preheat oven to 375

4. Assemble:
1 1/2 C meat sauce,
6 noodles.
1/2 Ricotta mixture,
1/3 of mozarella slices.
Spoon 1 1/2 C meat sauce onto mozarella cover with 1/4 parmesean.
Repeat and top w mozarella and parmesean, cover with foil, spray foil w Pam and make sure foil not touching cheese.

5. Bake 25 minutes, remove foil and bake 25 more, let sit 15 minutes before serving.
