Potato Doughnuts

This recipe was the only one my mother had from her mother. My grandmother died 6 weeks after my mother was born.

Ingredients

  • 6 c sifted flour
  • 7 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 2 c sugar
  • 6 Tbs melted shortening
  • 3/4 c milk
  • 2 c mashed potatoes
  • Nutmeg to taste

Preparation

Step 1

Sift flour, baking powder and nutmeg. Combine eggs, sugar, potatoes, shortening; add milk and blend. Add dry ingredients to wet; fold in until flour disappears.

Roll out dough, cut into doughnuts. Fry in 360 degree oil til browned, flipping to brown both sides.
