Ingredients

  • 8 ounces cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 5 medium potatoes
  • 2 small yellow onions

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350. Shred cheese. Set aside.

Melt butter over low heat. Blend in flour. Add milk all at once; cook stirring constantly, until slightly thickened. Add cheese.

Season and continue to cook, stirring until cheese melts. Remove from heat. Spread half the cheese sauce on bottom of shallow baking dish.

Slice potatoes and onions. Arrange potatoes and onions over cheese sauce. Spread remaining sauce over top. Bake until potatoes are tender about 1 hour.
