Ingredients
- Cake:
- 1 stick butter
- 1 C hot buttermilk
- 2 C light brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 C flour
- 1 T cocoa
- 1 t baking soda
- 1 t vanilla
- Topping:
- 1 stick butter, softened
- 1 C light brown sugar
- 6 T milk
- 1 can flaked coconut
- 3/4 C nuts, chopped
- 1 T vanilla
Preparation
Step 1
1. Melt butter in hot buttermilk. Add sugar and blend until dissolved. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Sift together the flour, cocoa and baking soda. Blend into other mixture.
2. Turn into lightly greased 9 x 13 pan, bake 350 deg. 20 - 30 minutes.
3. Make topping: combine butter, brown sugar, milk, coconut, nuts and vanilla. Spread on top of cooked cake and return to oven under broiler until coconut is slightly toasted and topping is bubbly.
