Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 1 oz. bottle Red Food color
  • 4 tabelspoon cocoa (heaping)
  • 1 cup butter milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/2 cup cake flour
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 1 tbsp. Vinegar
  • 1 tsp. Baking Soda
  • FROSTING
  • 4 Tbsp flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla
  • 1 cup butter

Preparation

Step 1

Sift flour and salt twice. Cream shortening sugar and eggs. Make past of Food color and cocoa.
Add Buttermilk alternately to creamed sugar with flour and salt.
Add FC past and vanilla.
Add soda to vinegar over bowl as it foams.
Blend ingredients instead of beating.
Back 350 degrees for 35-40 min.

For FROSTING
Cook flout and mil till thick
Cool to luke warm
Cream sugar and tarter
Add to mix.
Beat till creamy
Use 9 X 13 pan
