Ingredients
- 1 package chocolate cake mix
- 1 cup and 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 cup softened butter
- 1/2 cup whipping cream
- 1 cup caramel sauce
- 1/2 cup caramel pieces for garnish
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Cake:
Prepare cake following package directions. Remove cake from oven, let cool slightly, then pierce all over with a fork. Heat caramel sauce in the microwave for 1 minute. Pour caramel sauce over warm cake. Chill cake in fridge for half an hour.
Frosting:
Heat 2 tablespoons sugar over medium heat until it dissolves and turns golden brown, set aside. Combine remaining sugar, butter and cream in saucepan and cook on medium heat, stirring constantly until boiling. Add carmelized sugar and bring to a boil. Cook another 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and beat until desired consistency.
Frost cooled cake and garnish with caramel pieces.
