Pie Crust

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 T sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold, unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • 1/3 cup cold vegetable shortening
  • 5-6 T ice water

Preparation

Step 1

Place the flour, sugar and salt in a food processor and pulse to mix. Add the butter and shortening and pulse until mixture resembles coarse meal. With the machine running, trickle about 5 T water through the feed tube until the dough gathers together in the side of the work bowl. If the dough seems dry, add the remaining T of water. Remove the dough from the machine, divide in half, and form into two disks. Wrap in plastic and chill for at least an hour.
