Black and White Cookies

Ingredients

  • 10 Tablespoons of butter, softened
  • 8 oz. semisweet bakers chocolate, chopped
  • 1 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3/4 tsp. baking powder
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 c. packed brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. semi chocolate chips
  • 2 c. white chocolate chips
  • 3 tablespoons shortening

Preparation

Step 1

In a saucepan, over low heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter with semi sweet chocolate, stirring until smooth. Let cool.

Sift flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt onto a sheet of parchment. With a mixer, beat together remaining 8 tablespoons of butter with sugar until light. Reduce speed and add eggs one at a time. Beat in melted chocolate mixture and vanilla until smooth. On lowest mixing speed, slowly add flour mixture. Fold in milk chocolate chips.

Drop by tablespoons onto greased baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Let cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

In a double boiler, melt white chocolate chips with shortening, stirring until smooth. Let cool slightly. Dip top each cookie in white chocolate, place on waxed paper or parchment. and let stand until set.
