envelope yeast (2¼ tsps yeast) dissolved in ½ cup warm water and ½ tsp sugar.
Let stand x 5 mins until yeast is dissolved.

Cream sugar and shortening,add beaten egg,salt and warm milk and water. Add dissolved yeast. Add 5-6 cups flour. Knead well. Set in warm place and let rise until double in bulk x approx 1 hr. Shape into rolls and put in greased pan or greased muffin tins and let rise x approx 1 hr. Cook in 400 deg. preheated oven for 18-20 mins until golden brown. Cool on racks.
