Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- salt
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 3/4 cups sugar
- 3/4 cup butter, softened
- 3 large eggs
- frosting
Preparation
Step 1
preheat oven to 350
grease 2 9" round cake pans
line bottoms with wax paper
grease wax paper dust with cocoa, shaking out excess
on sheet of wax paper mix flour,cocoa,soda, and 3/4 tsp. salt
in 2 cup liquid measure, mix buttermilk, and vanilla, set aside
in large bowl, with mixer on low, beat sugar and butter
until blended
increase speed to high, beat 3 min. until creamy
reduce speed to low
add eggs 1 at a time, beating well
beat in flour mix alternately with buttermilk mix
begin and end with flour
pour batter into prepared pans
bake 30-35 min. until toothpick comes out clean
cool on wire racks 10 min.
invert onto racks to cool completely
remove and discard paper
prepare choice of frosting
assemble cake with 2/3 cup frosting between layers
spread remaining over outside
