Ingredients
- Topping:
- 2 to 2 1/2 pounds of sliced Granny Smith apples, fresh or frozen
- 1 1/3 teaspoon flour
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 1/3 teaspoon lemon juice
- 3/4 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/3 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2/3 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- dash of salt
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Pre-heat oven to 400°. Butter a 8x11 inch baking dish (use glass or stainless steel for best results). Combine apples, sugar, lemon juice, flour, cinnamon in a bowl. Mix well to blend. Transfer to baking dish. Mix old-fashioned oats, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl. Add butter and rub into mixture until coarse cumbs form. Mix in walnuts. Spred topping onto apple mixture. Place in oven and bake until topping is golden brown and apples are tender (about 35-40 minutes).
