Mrs. Fields' Chocolate Chip Cookies

By

I know many recipes circulate claiming to be what they're not, but this one is the real deal. I personally heard Debbie Fields give this recipe out on a radio interview several years ago. Her ingredients are pretty standard. What was new, for me, was the idea of chilling the dough before baking, and baking for a longer time in a slower oven. I add a cup of chopped pecans or walnuts, and shorten the cooking time by about 1 minute, 45 seconds.

Ingredients

  • 2-1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup salted butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 cups (12 oz package) chocolate chips

Preparation

Step 1

Sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt, and set aside.

Cream together the brown sugar, white sugar, and salted butter.

Mix in eggs and vanilla. Slowly add the flour mixture.

Stir in chips and nuts if desired.

Preheat oven to 300 degrees and chill the cookie dough for at least 10 minutes.

Bake cookies at 300 degrees for 22 to 24 minutes. (I use a small ice cream scoop for forming the cookies; it's just over 1-inch in diameter, and holds about 1-1/2 Tblsp.)

Remove cookies from oven and transfer to a cool surface immediately.
