Ingredients
- Makes 2 loaf pans:
- 1 cup shortening
- 4 eggs
- 3 cups sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 cups canned pumpkin
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. nutmet
- 1 tsp. cloves
- 3 1/2 cups flour
- 2/3 cup water
- 1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Preparation
Step 1
Mix together shortening, eggs, sugar, salt and then add 2 cups canned pumpkin.
Sift together baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and flour. Add to egg mixture, gradually add 2/3 cup water. Fold in 1 cup of the walnuts, if using.
Bake at 350 for 45 minutes in greased and floured loaf pans.
