Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla
  • 2 lg eggs
  • 3 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspooon soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Icing
  • 1/4 cold water
  • 3 Tbsp meringue powder
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • paste food coloring

Preparation

Step 1

Beat together butter and next 3 ingredients at medium speed until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. In a medium bowl, combine flour, powder, soda, and salt. Gradually add to butter mixture, beating until well combined. Cover dough with plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour or up to 3 days.
Preheat oven to 350, line baking sheets with parchment paper. On a lightly floured surface roll dough to 1/4" thickness and cut with cutters. Bake for 10-12 minutes. Let cool on pans for 2 minutes before removing.
