Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh or frozen strawberries
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 1 3/4 cups sugar, divided
- 1 cup flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg, optional
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 tsp almond extract
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 T cornstarch
- 1 cup boiling water
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350. Butter square baking dish. Arrange the berries over the bottom of the dish. Drizzle with lemon juice. Combine 3/4 cup sugar, flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg in bowl and mix well. Add the milk, extracts, and stir until blended. Spread evenly over berries.
Combine the remaining 1 cup sugar and cornstarch and mix well. Sprinkle over batter. Pour boiling water over the top. Bake for 45 minutes or until golden and bubbly. Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream
