Ingredients

  • 6 eggs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 lb butter
  • 6 cups flour
  • pinch salt
  • 6 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tsp anise oil or extract rind of orange
  • sliced or chopped walnuts or almonds

Preparation

Step 1

Beat butter, sugar, salt, anise, rind of orange and milk. Add flour, a little at a time until well blended. Transfer to acrylic board and work together putting a little flour on board as not to stick. Roll into 4 or 6 rolls. Place on greased cookie sheet. Brush with 1 beaten egg white. Bake 375 for approx. 15 minutes on one side and then carefully turn and bake 15 minutes on the other side. Take out of oven, cool slightly and lower temperature in oven to 300. Cut in 1/2 slices and place back in oven for 10 minutes on each side until lightly browned.
