Brown Sugar Pork Chops
By Addie
“No store-bought sauce can compare with Grandma's brown sugar sauce on grilled meat.”
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup apple juice
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup cold water
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 6 boneless loin pork chops (about 1/2 inch thick)
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat grill to medium. Place rack 6 inches from heat.
For sauce, combine brown sugar, apple juice, vegetable oil, soy sauce, ginger, black pepper and salt in a small saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring continually, until brown sugar is dissolved and mixture is smooth.
Combine cold water and cornstarch in a small bowl and mix well. Add to the brown sugar mixture and mix well. Cook mixture, stirring continually, until thickened, about 3 to 4 minutes.
Grill pork chops, turning once, for 10 minutes. Brush with sauce. Grill, turning and brushing with sauce, until juices run clear when meat is pierced with a knife, about 5 minutes.
Grandma's Secret Tip:
Grandma sometimes made up a batch of the brown sugar sauce to keep in the refrigerator for up to a week. That way, the sauce was handy when she was ready to grill the pork chops.
