This Ham & Beans recipe is great when feeding a large group of people. Simple and low maintenance, it is the perfect option for a hearty meal.
tablespoons baking soda
16 to 20
cups pinto beans (10 pounds bag=25 cups; 8 pounds bag=20 cups)
large onions, chopped
picnic ham, cubed, about 4 pounds
large white potato, cut in half
Soak beans overnight in soda water, by mixing the baking soda and water. Drain water and cover beans with fresh water. Add onions, ham, and potato halves. Cook at low temperature (275 - 300°F) approximately 6 hours or until beans are tender. Discard potato after cooking.
