Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 1/2 cup catsup
  • 1/2 cup dark corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup orange juice

Preparation

Step 1

In a medium saucepan, stir together the brown sugar, cornstarch and chili powder. Add the tomato sauce, vinegar, catsup and corn syrup; stir. Add 1/2 cup water. Bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Stir the orange juice into the sauce. Return to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 5 more minutes.

Baste the barbecue sauce over your favorite meat or poultry about the last quarter of he grilling or broiling time. Heat through any additional sauce and pass it to spoon over each serving. Store any remaining sauce, covered, in the refrigerator.

NOTE: Use on pork roast, beef, pork ribs and poultry pieces.
