Ingredients

  • BLACKENING SPICE:
  • 3 tablespoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried ground thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ....................................
  • FOR FISH:
  • 4 tilapia fillets
  • 2 tablespoons grapeseed oil
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced

Preparation

Step 1

In a small bowl combine all of the spices. Press a heaping tablespoon of the spice mix onto each fillet so that both sides are liberally coated. Allow the fish to sit for 15 minutes at room temperature prior to cooking.

In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Once the oil is almost smoking, add the fillets and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side. Sprinkle with lemon juice and transfer the fillets to serving platter.

REVIEWS:

These spices mixed well together & were perfectly spicy. I made this for myself tonight but I will make this for my husband when he gets home from his business trip.

Soooooo good!!!!

The best Tilapia ever!

My boyfriend LOVED this! Alongside with a green bean salad and it was perfect! Very simple and quick. Definitely going to make this again.

Amazing! My hubby and I both loved it and it was so easy to make. We will definitely be adding this to our recipe box.

My 16 and 11 yr old do not eat fish but they loved this one! Great spice!

Wow! Perfect blackening seasoning that was enough for my family and guests (8 filets. This is my new go to blackening blend. I used canola instead of grapeseed oil. Big Daddy recipes are consistently excellent with a touch of spice.

I have done this recipe quite a few times. Those in my family who love fish, love this recipe. I had a hard time finding the grapeseed oil, so I used extra light virgin olive oil first few times I did the recipe. I finally found and used the grapeseed oil and no one really cared for the flavor of this fish. So, I went back to the olive oil.

It was very easy and you can't screw this up! spice mixture is great on meats and chicken too!!!

Oh my, this was so yummy! I as well used what I had.....EVOO with a pat of butter for blackening and regular paprika. I also took the cayenne down to a qtr of what was called for. Very quick and easy on a whim dish. I can't wait to make it with the exact ingredients!

I love this receipe! Easy to make, especially on a hot summer night! The combination of spices are delightful. I will be making this tasty dish all summer!

It's a keeper...I have the spice mix already done and use it for other things as well. I have made this several times. Easy and delicious.

Made this last night and my husband loved it! He's usually the cook who uses tons of spices and is a wiz in the kitchen so it was great to make something that tastes and looked as amazing as a restaurant worthy dish! It is very spicy but my pallet is sensitive .. Other then that it's perfect! We will be cooking this a lot!

Restaurant quality dish right on your table. Watch the Cayenne though.
