Ingredients
- Cocoa Peppermint Frosting:
- 2/3 cup shortening
- 1 2/3 cups sugar
- 3 eggs
- 2 1/4 cups sifted flour
- 2/3 cup cocoa
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/3 cup water
- 1/2 cup crushed peppermint candy
- 1/3 cup butter
- 1/2 cup cocoa
- 3 cups sifted confectioner sugar
- 1/2 cup scalded milk
- 3/4 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 Tablespoon crushed peppermint candy

Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream shortening, sugar and eggs until fluffy. Beat on high speed for 5 minutes. Sift together flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add dry ingredients alternating with water. Stir in candy. Bake for 35 minutes.
Cocoa Peppermint Frosting:
Melt butter in saucepan. Stir in cocoa. Blend in remaining ingredients. Place pan in bowl of ice water and beat until spreading consistancy, about 5 minutes.
