Ingredients
- 1/4 cup pot barley
- 6 cups water
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup diced celery (3-4 stalks)
- 2 cups carrots (6 small carrots)
- 1 medium onion
- 1 tsp parsley
- 1 tbsp vegetable flakes (rounded almost 2 tbsp)
- 1 large can tomatoes with juice-diced
- 2-3 tbsp butter
- pepper

Preparation
Step 1
Cook first 3 ingredients for 1/2 hour - careful, will boil over. Cook cover off. (Once boils heat 2)
Add ingredients 4-8 and cook covered 1/2 hour more (once boils-heat 1-2)
Add tomatoes and simmer 1 hour covered
Add butter and pepper to taste
