Ingredients
- CAKE:
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 stick butter, softened
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon soda
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 eggs
- SAUCE:
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons flour, heaping tablespoons
- 3 tablespoons cocoa, heaping tablespoons
- 3 cups whole milk
- 1/3 stick butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla

Step 1
CAKE:
1. Cream butter and sugar until smooth.
2. Mix flour, salt, soda and baking powder.
3. Add alternately with buttermilk and vanilla to the butter sugar mix.
4. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
5. Bake about 30-minutes in a 350º F oven until done and slightly brown.
6. Test for doneness with a toothpick.
SAUCE:
1. Mix all dry ingredients together in a saucepan.
2. Add milk, butter and vanilla.
3. Cook, stirring constantly, over medium heat until thick and smooth.
Serve hot sauce over warm cake.
