Ingredients

  • 3 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 t. cream of tartar
  • 1 t. baking soda
  • 1 t. salt
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 t. vanilla extract

Preparation

Step 1

Mix together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt in a bowl.

In a separate bowl, whisk together remaining ingredients with a fork. Stir shortening mixture into flour mixture. Wrap dough in plastic wrap; refrigerate for 30 minutes.

On a floured surface, roll out dough 1/8-inch thick; cut into shapes with cookie cutters, as desired. Arrange on lightly greased baking sheets.

Bake at 375 degrees for 5 to 6 minutes, until lightly golden.

Makes about 4 dozen.
