Chocolate Roll Ups

By

When you're not sure what you're hungering for, give these a try. They're a super way to start or end your day, from breakfast to a late-night snack (and, of course, for snack times in between, too).

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (3 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable shortening
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 container (8 ounces) refrigerated crescent dinner rolls (8 rolls)
  • 2 tablespoons sliced almonds
  • Confectioners' sugar for sprinkling

Preparation

Step 1

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a small saucepan, combine the chocolate chips and shortening over low heat. Heat until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth, stirring constantly. Remove from the heat and stir in the almond extract.

2. Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into 8 triangles. Spread the chocolate sauce evenly over each triangle, then sprinkle with the sliced almonds. Cut each triangle in half lengthwise and roll up, starting at the widest end.

3. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet for 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden. Sprinkle with the confectioners' sugar before serving. Makes 16 pastries.

Notes

Serve these warm or at room temperature.
