  • Brownies:

  • 1

    box (1 lb 3.8 oz) fudge brownie mix

  • ½

    cup vegetable oil

  • ¼

    cup water

  • 2


  • Filling:

  • ½

    cup butter or margarine, softened

  • 1

    package (3 oz) cream cheese, softened

  • cups powdered sugar

  • 3

    tablespoons crème de menthe syrup

  • Green food color, if desired

  • Frosting:

  • 1

    bag (6 oz) semisweet chocolate chips (1 cup)

  • cup butter or margarine


Heat oven to 350°F. Grease bottom only of 13×9-inch pan with shortening. In medium bowl, stir brownie mix, oil, water and eggs with spoon until well blended. Spread in pan. Bake 28 to 30 minutes or until set. DONOTOVERBAKE. Cool completely. In medium bowl, beat 1/2 cup butter and the cream cheese until light and fluffy. Add remaining filling ingredients; beat until smooth. Spread evenly over cooled brownies. In small saucepan, melt frosting ingredients over low heat, stirring constantly, until smooth. Remove from heat; cool 15 minutes. Pour frosting evenly over filling; spread carefully to cover. Refrigerate 1 hour before cutting. For brownies, cut into 6 rows by 8 rows. Store in refrigerator. You’ll find crème de menthe syrup in the ice cream topping section of your supermarket. Stronger-tasting crème de menthe liqueur can be substituted for the syrup.
