  • 1 cup (250 ml) butter
  • 1 cup (250 ml) packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (500 ml) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp (1 ml) salt
  • 3 - 4 bars of milk chocolate (7/8 oz, 24.5 g each) separated into individual squares
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) chopped nuts

Servings 6

Step 1

Mix the butter, brown sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla until well blended. Stir in the flour and salt until well blended. Spread into a rectangle about 13 x 10 inches (33 x 25 cm) on a greased baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch (2.5 cm) all around the edges of the baking sheet. Bake in a preheated 350F (180C) oven until browned, 20 to 25 minutes. The cookie will be soft. Remove from the oven and immediately place the squares of chocolate on top. Let stand until melted and spread evenly over the entire surface. Sprinkle with chopped nuts and cut into small squares while still warm. Makes 6 to 7 dozen squares.
