Ingredients

  • Makes about 4 cups
  • Prep time: 5 minutes
  • Total time: 6 to 7 hours
  • 4 1/2 cups water
  • 1 cup steel-cut oats
  • 1/4 cup raw cacao powder
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 6 packets stevia, or to taste

Preparation

Step 1

This recipe uses your slow cooker, so you can make a big batch at the beginning of Phase 3, and you can keep eating it through Phase 1.

Makes about 4 cups

Combine the water and oats in a slow cooker. Cover and cook on low heat for 6 to 7 hours. (If your slow cooker switches to “warm” after it’s finished, that’s fine — the oatmeal can sit in there for an hour or two.)

When you’re ready to serve, stir in the cacao, vanilla, and stevia. You can dress up this basic chocolate oatmeal — here are a few variations:

Berries and Cream: Stir in a splash of rice milk and top with fresh berries.

Mexican Hot Chocolate: Add 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon.

Phase 3 add-ins: Try coconut milk, shredded coconut, almonds, or cacao nibs.
