Preparation

Step 1

Mix together, in oblong dish, 1-1/2 cups sugar and 2T. cinnamon. Set aside.

Mix cream cheese, 1/8 cup sugar, egg yolk and vanilla until smooth and creamy. Spread mixture on each slice of bread. Add one tablespoon of apples at one end of bread(centered) and roll up. Dip each one in melted butter, then roll in the 1-1/2 cups sugar and cinnamon mixture. Place on cookie sheet. Bake at 350° for about 15 minutes. Serve warm or cold.

Don't soak in the butter-too wet! Don't crowd on baking pan. Leave room between for good crispying.

NOTE: Recipe usually doesn't use all the cream cheese mixture. I bake them 18 to 20 minutes.
A cookie sheet pan that has gotten brown with use makes them crisp. I don't like using stoneware for this. Not crisp enough for me!

Best eaten same day but warm up well in a toaster oven or regular oven.
