CHOCOLATE CAKE

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1-1/4 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1 cup water, boiling
  • 1-1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

Cream shortening and sugar together. Add the eggs and beat until light and fluffy. Add the cocoa dissolved in the hot water, mix well. Sift the flour, baking powder and baking soda and salt together. Add gradually into the egg mixture. Beat 5 minutes, then add vanilla and mix thoroughly.

Bake in well greased and floured 8" pan in 350 degree oven for about 45 minutes. The top should spring back when done.
