Sour Cream Chocolate Pound Cake

Ingredients

  • For the Cake:
  • 2 sticks butter, softened
  • 2 ups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 6 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 1/2 cups (all-purpose) flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 8-ounce carton sour cream
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • FOR THE CHOCOLATE FROSTING:
  • 12 ounces semisweet chocolate bits
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 8-ounce carton sour cream
  • 1 pound confectioners sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Preparation

Step 1

1. Grease and flour a pound cake pan. Heat oven to 325 degrees.

2. For the cake, cream butter and both sugars gradually, 5-7 minutes. Add
eggs one at a time, mixing just until yellow disappears. In a separate
bowl, combine flour,cocoa and baking soda. Add flour mixture to butter
and sugar mixture in several additions, alternating with portions
of sour cream, ending with flour mixture. Add vanilla. Bake for 1 hour
20 minutes or just until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out
clean. Test at 1 hour; and do not over-bake.

3. Cool cake 20 minute before removing from pan. Let cake cool completely
before frosting .

4. For the frosting, gently melt chocolate bits and butter, just until
melted and combined. Add sour cream, sugar and vanilla.
