  • 38 mins

Ingredients

  • 3 1/4 to 3 3/4 flour
  • 1 pkg active dry yeast
  • 1 C. milk
  • 1/4 C. sugar
  • 1/3 C. butter/margarine
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 beaten egg

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven 375'

Stir 1 1/4 c. flour and yeast in large bowl. In a medium saucepan heat and stir milk, sugar, butter and 3/4 tsp. salt just till warm (120 F to 130F) until butter is almost melted. Add to flour mixture along with egg. Beat with electric mixer on high speed 30 seconds, scraping bowl constantly. Beat on high speed 3 min. Using a wooden spoon, mix in as much remaining flour as you can.

Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface. Knead in remaining flour to make a moderately stiff dough that is smooth and elastic, about 8 min. Place in greased bowl; turn once. Cover; let rise in warm place until doubled, about an hour.

Punch dough down. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide in half, cover and let rest 10 min.
Shape into balls.

Makes 24 dinner rolls/12 hamburger buns.

Cover and let rise until doubled, about a 1/2 hour.

Bake 375 15 to 18 min or until rolls sound hollow when lightly tapped. Immediately move to wire racks to cool.

*I don't use a wooden spoon!! I have a mixer with a bread hook, if you do it that way I end up using up to a 1/2 c. more flour than what the recipe calls for and they still turn out just fine! This recipe has always turned out good for me and I am not much of a bread maker! You can substitute 1 C. of whole wheat flour if you would like
