Preparation
Step 1
STARTER FOR AMISH SWEET BREAD
COMBINE: 1 CUP FLOUR (SELF-RISING)
1 CUP SUGAR
1 CUP MILK
Place in a plastic container. Cover loosely with lid slightly ajar or
cover w/cheesecloth and rubber band. NOTE: I think the Ziploc bag
will work just fine instead but may need to squeeze bag more often. I’m
not sure on this until I try.
Days 1-17: Stir or squeeze once everyday.
Day 18: Do nothing
Days 19, 20, 21: Stir or squeeze once a day
Day 22: Add and stir:
1 cup flour (self-rising)
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
Days: 23, 24, 25, And 26: Stir or squeeze each day
Day 27: Add and stir:
1 cup flour (self-rising)
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
You should now have 4 cups or 4 starters.
Use all making 3 loaves each. This is good if you want to do all your
baking at once. Start another 10 day round with one if you want to
bake more later. Give some away.
IMPORTANT: At this point of four starters, use one starter and start on other recipe sheet
where oil, eggs, pudding, etc. are added.
REMEMBER: Each new 10 day round will give you 4 new starters to do something with.
NOTE: After taking a starter and adding oil, eggs, pudding, etc. I believe you end up with 5
starters. This would be the 4 to bag and the 1 left in bowl.
