War Cake

Ingredients

  • Liquid Mixture:
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 c. water
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1 c. raisins (floured)
  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. allspice
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • Dry Mixture:
  • 3 1/2 c. sifted flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 tsp. baking powder

Preparation

Step 1

Combine all liquid mixture ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Boil 5 minutes. Cool completely.

Add liquid mixture to dry mixture and stir until combined.

Pour into greased and floured tube pan.

Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.
