Ingredients

  • Oil for frying crabs and potatoes
  • 4 large raw crabs
  • 4 potatoes, quartered
  • 2 cups of water
  • 2 tablespoon ghee
  • 11/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 2 teaspoon fresh coconut milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic paste
  • 4 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 2 cups of Water
  • Salt to taste
  • Curry leaves or coriander leaves, for garnishing

Preparation

Step 1

Clean the crabs. Separate the claws and the crack the body and remove the hard shell of the crab.

Rub in a little turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder and salt and fry until it turns light brown, set aside

In the same pan, fry the quartered potatoes until half tender, set aside

Take a frying pan, heat 2 tablespoon of ghee. Add bay leaves and stir.

Add onions and stir fry till its brown.

Add salt to taste, turmeric, red chili powders, ginger & garlic paste and stir

Add coconut milk and stir it gently

Add crabs, fried potatoes and 2 cups of water

Cover and simmer for 10 -12 mins

Check if the crab and potatoes are tender, if not , then continue cooking for few minutes on low flame

Add garam masala and simmer for 5 mins

Foot Note:
Garnish with curry leaves and serve hot with rice
