Taco Seasoning Mix

By

This is a mix that can be used in the place of any packaged Taco mix but it is much better because it can be used in many ways that you wouldn’t think of using the other mix. It also makes a great gift. Just package it in a pretty jar and add a card with directions and suggestions for all the ways that you have found to use it.

Preparation

Step 1

If you can’t find New Mexico chili powder, use 7 T. of chili powder. It will have a much better flavor and stay fresh longer if you grind the spices yourself. Store it in a cool dry place in an opaque container. If you don’t use it often, store it in the freezer.

Beef Tacos
For each pound of ground beef, use 2 tablespoons of mix, 1/2 small onion, diced, and 2 tablespoons canned diced green chili. Brown the meat with the onion and add the green chili and the seasoning. Add enough water to cover the bottom of the skillet, cover, and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove the cover and let the water cook off before you serve it.

If you don’t have canned green chili you can add 1/4 cup of diced, fresh green pepper when you add the onion. Or you can omit it, altogether.
