This recipe came from Kathy Andrews' mother or grandmother. I like it because it is not overly dry, like many -- these are more cookie-like. A real favorite for Bob and me.

Ingredients
- 2 cubes butter, room temperature
- 1 1/4 cups sugar
- 2 whole eggs plus one egg yolk – save one white for glazing later
- 1 tbsp. almond flavoring or anise
- 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 3 cups flour
- 2 cup chopped (coarse - definitely NOT sliced) almonds
- or walnuts or toasted Macadamia nuts.
Preparation
Step 1
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add remaining ingredients except one egg white. Mix well with hands. Place ball of dough on floured board and shape into one big roll, then cut into 6 rolls. Flatten each roll to 2” wide and 1/2” thick. Place three rolls on cookie sheet spacing them.(Cook next three rolls separately.) Beat remaining egg white until fluffy and brush on rolls. Bake one sheet at a time at 375 degrees for 20 min. Remove from oven and cool. Cut diagonally. Place on sides and bake for about 10 more minutes.
