Ingredients
- 2 Lbs Flour
- 2 Eggs
- 3/4 Lb Sugar
- 3/4 Lb Shortening
- 5 Tsp Baking Powder
- 1 Tsp Vanilla
- 1/2 Tsp salt
- Milk to moisten
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Put the flour and baking powder in a bowl and mix until blended.
In a separate bowl, cream sugar, salt and shortening together until creamy and slightly lightened
Add eggs one at a time making sure it is fully incorporated before adding the second one
Add vanilla and mix until blended
Add the dry ingredients a little at a time until all flour is blended
Add 1-2 tablespoons of milk at a time to soften the dough slightly.
Using a cookie press with the star shape (I prefer the small star, traditionally the large one is used) Press the dough in long strips on the pans and cut into 3-4 inch pieces. Sprinkle with decorative sugar and bake until golden brown 10-12 minutes. Allow to cool slightly and move to airtight container. Cookies will keep for up to a week but the usually don’t.
