Irish Soda Bread

This sliceable Irish Soda Bread is baked in a traditional loaf pan, ready for sandwiches or to serve with a meal. You'll love this easy bread!
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup (1 stick butter) softened
- 1 egg
- 3 cups flour
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1 Tbs. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 1/4 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup raisins

Step 1
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour 9 x 5 inch loaf pan. Set aside.
Cream together sugar and butter. Add egg until well-blended.
Sift flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt into creamed mixture. Mix well.
Stir in buttermilk until blended.
Stir in raisins and spread evenly into loaf pan. Cut a bold cross on top of bread. This prevents cracking.
Bake one hour until lightly browned. Cool in pan five minutes. Remove bread to wire rack and continue to cool.
