Cherry-Pecan Gems
The cherries make the flavor of these cookies pop, while the almonds give it some crunch. They're slightly different from your standard cookie, but that's what makes this recipe worth holding onto.

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Flour
- 1 tsp Baking soda
- 1/2 tsp Cream of tartar
- 1 1/2 Sticks softened butter
- 1 cup Sugar
- 1 Egg
- 2 T Maraschino cherry syrup
- 1/4 tsp Almond extract
- A few drops red food coloring
- 1 cup finely chopped pecans
- Red maraschino cherries, halved

Preparation
Step 1
1. Combine flour, soda, cream of tartar, and 1/4 tsp. salt.
2. Beat butter 30 seconds. Add sugar; beat until well combined. Beat in egg, syrup, extract, and food coloring.
3. Add dry ingredients and beat until blended. Stir in pecans.
4. Shape into two 9 inch rolls. Wrap in plastic wrap; chill throughly.
5. Cut into 1/4 inch slices. Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
6. Lightly press a drained cherry in center of each.
7. Bake at 375° for 10-12 minutes. Cool.
