Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion diced
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 1/2 tablespoons chili powder
- 2 tablespoons cumin
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 1/2 cups beef broth
- 1 (15 oz.) petite diced tomatoes
- 1 (8 oz.) tomato paste
Preparation
Step 1
Add olive oil to a large soup pot and place over medium-high heat for two minutes. Add the onions. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 2
Add the ground beef. Break it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook for 6-7 minutes, until beef is browned, stirring occasionally.
Step 3
Add chili powder, cumin, sugar, gar powder, salt, pepper, cayenne and tomato paste. Stir until we’ll combined.
Step 4
Add the broth, diced tomatoes, and tomato sauce. Stir well.
Step 5
Bring liquid to a low boil. Reduce heat to a gentle simmer, uncovered, for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 6
Remove from the heat. Let chili rest for 5-10 minutes.
