Ingredients
- 6 1/2 cups A/P flour
- 6 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 cup sugar
- pinch salt
- 2 1/2 sticks butter, softened
- 6 eggs
- bottle of anise
- 1 cup milk
- For Icing:
- 4 cups powder sugar
- 5 Tbsp milk
- Food Coloring
- sprinkles
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line cookie sheet with parchment paper.
Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Add the eggs, one at at time, mixing after each addition. Add the Anise extract.
Step 2
Blend flour, salt and baking powder. Start by adding 1/3 of dry ingredients to butter/sugar mix, in the mixer. Add 1 Tbsp milk. Add another 1/3 of dry ingredients and another 1 Tbsp milk. Finally, mix in enough of the remaining dry ingredients until dough is like a brownie batter (softer than drop cookie dough)
Step 3
Roll out the dough like a rope. Cut into pieces and twist each into a love knot. Bake 10-12 minutes, brown on bottom
Step 4
For the icing:
1. Mix sugar, milk and food color to make sugar glaze. 2. hold cookies in your hand and turn them upside down so that you can dip the top 1/2 inch into the glaze. Turn over and immediately top with sprinkles.
Step 5
Allow icing to harden overnight, then store in an airtight container, or freeze
