Ingredients

  • 6 C fresh strawberries, halved
  • 3/4 C sugar, divided
  • 1/2 C plus 2 T flour, divided
  • 1 T lemon juice
  • 1/8 t baking powder
  • 1/8 t baking soda
  • 1/8 t salt
  • 3 T non hydrogenated vegetable shortening

Step 1

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. coat 11 x 7 in baking dish with cooking spray.

Toss together strawberries, 1/2 C plus 2 T sugar, 2 T flour and lemon juice in bowl. Transfer to prepared baking dish.

Whisk together remaining 1/2 C flour, remaining 2 T sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt in separate bowl. Add shortening and mix well with fork until mixture is crumbly. Stir in 1/2 C water. spread over strawberry mixture. Bake 20-30 min or until browned and bubbly. Let stand 10 min before serving.

Can be refrigerated for 2 days. Serve warm or at room temperature.
