Deep Dish Apple Pie

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour*
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 12 cups thinly sliced pared apples
- (about 10 medium)
- 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
- Pastry for 9-inch one crust pie

Preparation
Step 1
Stir together sugar, flour, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt; mix with apples. Turn into ungreased square pan, 9x9x2inches; dot with butter.
Heat oven to 425. Prepare pastry as directed except –roll into 10-inch square. Fold pastry in half; cut slits near the center. Unfold over fruit in pan; fold edges under just inside edge of pan.
Bake 1 hour or until juices begins to bubble through slits in crust. Best served warm.
*If using self-rising flour, omit salt.
No apples? Substitute 3 cans (1pound 4 ounces each) apple slices, drained, for the fresh apples; use half the amount of sugar, flour, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt. Bake 45 minutes.
